10 Most Extreme Places on Earth)

Worlds tallest mountain.
"Wait", I hear you cry, "That's Everest!"
But no, Everest is the highest mountain. The difference can be likened to the difference between a person who is high (in a plane or on a mountain) and a man that is tall (say, 8 feet).
Hight, measured from sea level, goes to Everest, but its already on a bit of a hill (well, a lot of a hill - they call it the Himalayas)
Mauna Kea refuses to cheat, and is greater vertical distance from base to tip than Everest.
Other extreme mountains include K2, second tallest and worlds most difficult to climb and Mauna Loa, the worlds largest mountain be volume.
